Providence Martinez-Alaniz

Providence M. Alaniz is the current Chairperson of the Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority of the County of Santa Cruz, representing the City of Watsonville on the Board. A lifelong community advocate with deep roots in Watsonville, Providence has volunteered with more than a dozen nonprofit organizations, focusing on human rights, disability advocacy, and hunger alleviation. Since 2018, she has served on the Watsonville Library Board, where she has worked to expand access to information and resources for the entire community. Providence is a passionate advocate for equity, inclusion, and social justice. Through her leadership in SEIU Local 2015, she has advanced the rights of workers and championed fair treatment and improved working conditions. She has also been a dedicated organizer of community events that celebrate diversity and foster a sense of belonging. Her commitment to public service extends to her work feeding the hungry and supporting marginalized groups throughout the Central Coast. Providence is driven by a belief in the power of communities to uplift one another and create meaningful change.
